A small quilt inspired by the wildflowers on the West Coast.
At the end of August, I went up the coast to see the wildflowers in bloom at West Coast National Park - it was the prettiest day, slightly overcast but perfect for photos. There were so many different flowers out and I just couldn’t stop smiling. I came back to the studio that Monday and immediately started sewing a patchwork inspired by the colours, scale and pattern of the flower fields. I decided it would be a small quilt - I finished the quilt top with almost all of my last pieces of yellow and bright green, and used a large piece of blue cotton for the back. The front is machine sewn with 100% cotton thread and made entirely from scraps (mostly linen and cotton, and a few pieces of polyester (the green plaid)). I also included a small piece of my own handwoven fabric for good luck (natural linen and mustard yellow stripes).
I hope it reminds you of spring and all the small joys of seeing nature in bloom.
This is a lovely piece to hang on a wall, perhaps above a bed, to bring some softness and texture to a space. Quilt clips to display it are available in my shop.

Care
Care
- All quilts have been pre-washed and should not shrink, distort or discolour while washing at home.
- Avoid direct sunlight as it may cause colours to fade.
- Do not bleach.
- Spot clean stains / dirt with a damp cloth and gentle detergent (put the detergent on the cloth, not the quilt) when needed. Otherwise, if the quilt isn’t visibly dirty, just let it hang outdoors in the sun for a day.
- But the quilt might need a good wash every now and then. I’d recommend hand washing it in the tub over using a washing machine, as a washing machine even on a delicate cycle will be harsher on the material and you’ll want to keep your precious quilt intact for as long as possible!
- To hand wash the quilt, fill the tub about half with warm water (water that isn’t too hot to the touch, you should be able to have your hands in it comfortably), add a lid of gentle detergent and swirl it around, making sure it’s well mixed (the water should get a little bubbly). Then add the quilt to the tub and let it soak for about 10 mins before agitating the water. Try ‘scrunching’ the quilt up then unfurling it a few times to get the detergent on the material. If there are any visible stains, rub them out with your hands but avoid putting detergent directly on the quilt as it could stain the fabric. After an hour or so of soaking, drain the water and refill the tub with warm water to wash the soap away. Repeat this step if the quilt is still soapy. Then gently squeeze as much of the water out as possible by rolling the quilt onto itself like a burrito and hang it outside to dry on a line.
