This large patchwork panel, Tree Lines, is inspired by the Korean art of Jogakbo (‘patchwork’) - which is a form of Bojagi (traditional wrapping cloth) typically made with scraps or remnants. This type of patchwork uses a flat felled seam, which gives the fabric a neat finish on both sides. And this one is a sort of mise en abîme in a way, as I sewed it from the last scraps leftover from the curtains I made for the front of the restaurant (itself made from scraps leftover from another curtain). I love the interconnectedness of this part of my work - knowing that somehow all of these pieces, scattered across the globe, are all a part of each other.
